The Read Pile Returns!!!

This post marks the triumphant return of “The Read Pile”, a weekly blog post of all the books I get to read that week!

This is the pile of mainly Marvel books this time, from the week of 9/17/14, with a little Savage Dragon thrown in! 🙂

Previews #296 Pre-order Picks – May 2013

Welcome to this month’s “Previews Pre-order Picks”! If you’re new pre-ordering comics, Previews is a catalog produced by Diamond Comic Distributors that contains comic books and other items for sale in what is called the direct market. The direct market consists primarily of comic book shops. Products are ordered during the current month (May) at your local comic shop or online retailer and two months later (July) you can pick up your items.

Here are a few of my picks from May’s Previews for items shipping in July.

Tom Strong and the Planet of Peril #1 (of 6) – From Vertigo. Written by Peter Hogan and art by Chris Sprouse and Karl Story. Tom Strong is back and heading to Terra Obscura! I’ve loved the Tom Strong books from the beginning and I’m glad to see them producing more stories! The price for this issue is $2.99.

Astro City #2 – With writing by Kurt Busiek and art by Brent Anderon, we travel back to Astro City in this much loved series after a bit of a hiatus. Not to mention it has Alex Ross returning for cover duty. This Vertigo book comes in at $3.99.

Fearless Dawn: In outer Space One Shot – Asylum Press presents the latest chapter in this action/adventure series by creator Steve Mannion.  This sounds like another great short story featuring Fearless Dawn who is out to save the world from an attack from outer space. I really like Steve Mannion’s art style and as a bonus this issue includes a sketchbook section featuring some of his work! Priced at $3.99

Those are my May picks! If you have any books to suggest that I didn’t mention, please let me know in the comments!

In addition, if you are a comic book creator and don’t distribute through Diamond please feel free to contact me and let me know about your book! Even if you do distribute through Diamond I’d love to hear about your project!
